Today, I had the pleasure of painting an old, rustic barn located in the heart of an Alabamian neighborhood, right in the middle of a golf course. Yes, you heard that right - a barn on a golf course! 😀 This unique structure piqued my interest and inspired me to begin painting. Having grown up surrounded by barns, I've developed a deep appreciation for these historic icons.

I was drawn to this particular barn because it was being preserved and repurposed, rather than being torn down or left to rot. I believe that we should do more to preserve and repurpose old buildings like this barn. Instead of being wasteful and always seeking to erect new structures, we should appreciate the value and rich history of the old buildings that still stand. Unfortunately, many people in society view old buildings as outdated and invaluable, and they are too often left forgotten. This is a pessimistic way of viewing the world, and it's not just old buildings that are abandoned in this way; our elders are also too often abandoned. As Christians, it's our duty to love and care for one another, especially our elders.

Every old building has a story to tell, and we can learn so much from them if we take the time to listen. The lessons of history should never be erased; instead, we should appreciate and learn from the stories of our ancestors and elders. As an artist, I believe that understanding the history of life provides us with a unique perspective on the lives of those who came before us.

Let us strive to make a positive impact on the world while honoring God and promoting cooperation for the greater good. Many blessings to you!

Amy Boardman

Hello, I’m Amy Boardman, an artist based in Huntsville, Alabama, inspired by the beauty of nature, my Christian faith, and my Southern roots, while savoring life’s fleeting moments. My creative journey began in the rural Midwest and now flourishes in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Art captured my heart at a young age through my father’s teenage sketches, sparking a lifelong passion for painting. I work primarily in watercolor and acrylic.

My subjects include coastal and waterscapes, landscapes and places, pets and wildlife, still life and food—each piece created to honor the Creator and reflect the beauty that surrounds us. Rooted in gratitude and a love for God’s creation, I strive to share hope, joy, and encouragement through my art while celebrating the freedom and blessings of being American.
