Commissioning A Painting:
Whether it’s a beloved pet, a meaningful place, or a moment you never want to forget — art has a way of preserving what words can’t always express.
Amy Boardman is now accepting commissioned orders and would love to create a personalized painting just for you!
Every custom painting begins with a story.
Are you considering having
a painting commissioned?
Commissioning a piece of original art is a deeply meaningful investment—one created with intention, care, and professional quality. Here’s how the process works:
Commission Process:
Step One: Purchase Your Commission Painting
Pet Portraits:
Click this here: ‘Order Your Soulful Pet Portrait’ to reserve your spot. Full payment is required before work begins. Once your order is placed, you’ll receive simple instructions for submitting your reference photos. Please review the Pet Portrait Commission Guidelines for helpful tips.Custom Landscapes or Other Subjects:
Click this here: ‘Email Details For Commission’ to share your vision. This allows us to ensure we’re a great fit and finalize pricing before moving forward.
Each original painting includes a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
A Note from the Artist:
I create artwork that reflects what is pure, honorable, and pleasing to God. I do not paint nudity, crude, or inappropriate scenes. If your project falls outside these values, I kindly encourage you to connect with an artist whose style aligns with your vision.
Step Two: Share Your Vision
For Pet Portraits, landscapes, or other custom subjects (memories, combining photos, etc):
Email me with your vision (background as-is, white background, subject combinations, etc.)
Once we confirm the details and pricing, I will send you a commission agreement outlining everything.
For non-pet commissions, I will also provide you a payment link.
Full payment is required before work begins. Your payment serves as a digital signature confirming acceptance of the contract terms.
Step Three: Provide Photo References
Please email the following:
Full name
Address (including apartment/suite number)
Phone number
Email address
Desired size (e.g., 8”x10”)
Medium (watercolor or acrylic)
Choosing a medium means you have reviewed my gallery, are familiar with my artistic style in that medium, and would like your commission created in that style.
Clear reference photos (see photo guidelines below)
For pet portraits, visit ‘Pet Portraits Commission Guidelines’ for helpful tips on choosing the best photos.
Provide High-Quality Photos:
Send at least 2 clear, high-resolution images.
Ensure you own and have permission to them.
Low-quality or pixelated photos may limit details in the artwork.
Approval & Revision Policy:
Initial Draft/Sketch Approval:
Rough sketch or digital mockup sent for approval.
Major changes must be made here.
Painting Stage:
Includes 1 major revision (if needed).
Includes up to 2 minor tweaks during progress updates.
Final Touches Stage:
Small finishing tweaks only.
Anything behind this = paid revision.
Tweaks vs. Revisions:
Tweaks (Minor Adjustments):
Small changes that do not alter the main composition—e.g., lightening a color, softening an edge, adding a highlight, slight detail adjustments.
2 rounds of tweaks included in the base price.
Revisions (Major Adjustments):
Significant changes to the original design (e.g., redoing a background, changing proportions, moving elements, repainting large sections).
1 major revision at the sketch stage.
Additional Revisions:
Minor Tweaks (15-30 minutes): $35 each.
Moderate revision (1-2 hours): $100-$150 each.
Major revision (redoing large sections): Start at 30% of the original commission price.
Complete concept change/redesign: $200+ or new commission agreement & billed full price.
All revision fees must be paid in full before shipment. Failure to pay will delay delivery, and payments are non-refundable once the artwork is complete.
Timeline & Completion:
Small paintings: 3-7 business days.
Larger or more complex paintings: longer depending on detail.
Timely approval and photo submissions keeps the project on schedule.

Delays due to weather, carriers, or strikes are beyond my control, but I will keep you informed.

Refunds & Cancellations:
Before Work Begins: If you cancel within 48 hours of purchase and before work has started, you will receive a full refund (minus any processing fees).
After Work Begins: Once sketches or painting have started, payments are non-refundable, as time, materials, and preparation have already been invested.
Artist Cancellation: In the rare case that I cannot complete your painting due to unforeseen circumstances, you will receive a full refund.
Final Sale Policy: All sales of custom or commissioned artwork are final. Because these pieces are personalized, they cannot be resold.
Agreement & Documentation: A written contract outlining scope, timeline, and expectations. A copy of this Commission Process also serves as part of the contract, and you will additionally receive a summary of the agreed-upon artwork details and final price.
Copyright & Usage Rights:
I retain all copyright and reproduction rights to commissioned artwork. This means I may use images of your commission for my portfolio, website, or promotional materials.
Your painting is for personal enjoyment and display only. It may not be reproduced, sold, or used commercially without written permission.
If you wish to purchase exclusive rights (no reproduction by the artist), this can be discussed and agreed upon at an additional fee.
In addition to the above, the Visual Artists Rights Act (VARA) safeguards artists by allowing them to claim authorship and prevent any distortioin or misuse of their work that could harm their reputation.
Waitlist Information:
Commissions are scheduled in the order they are received.
If my current commission slots are full, you may join my waitlist to reserve the next available opening.
A non-refundable deposit (often 25-50% of commission price) may be required to hold your spot.
When your turn approaches, I’ll email you with an estimated start date. You’ll confirm and pay the balance before I begin.
