My Watercolor Was Selected for a National Exhibition
There’s so much more to being an artist than picking up a brush and painting.
To some, the creative process might look simple or effortless—but the truth is, it involves a lot of dedication, discipline, and behind-the-scenes work. As an artist who desires to grow in visibility and offer both honesty and transparency, I’ve come to learn that art is as much about the heart and hustle as it is about inspiration.
One intentional step I took was joining watercolor societies—a place where like-minded artists gather to learn, grow, and challenge themselves. These communities host workshops and juried competitions that invite artists from all over to submit their work for review by renowned jurors in the field.
It’s no small thing to be chosen. Hundreds of artists submit, but only a select few are accepted. To have a painting juried into such an exhibit is an incredible honor and deeply humbling. The jurors consider not only technique and skill, but the message and feeling the work conveys. It’s a meaningful affirmation that your art speaks.
Standing where inspiration struck—my painting and the view side by side.
I’m honored to share that my watercolor painting, "Tides of Solitude," was selected for inclusion in the 55th Annual International Exhibition hosted by the Louisiana Watercolor Society in New Orleans. This is the second piece of mine to be juried into one of their exhibitions, and although I haven’t won a prize (yet!), being chosen to exhibit is a victory in itself—one I’m sincerely grateful for.
As someone new to the juried show process, I was thrilled and a little nervous. I had never been to New Orleans before, so I made the drive—twice!—once to deliver my painting and again to pick it up after the show. Along the way, I took some time to be a tourist, soak in the culture, and reflect on how far this journey has brought me. The Louisiana art community was warm, welcoming, and so encouraging. I do wish I had been able to attend the reception and meet more of the participating artists in person!
This experience has been a powerful learning moment—one that reminded me again why I do what I do: to honor God with the gifts He’s given me, and to reflect His light, beauty, and hope into the world through every brushstroke.
🎨 About the Painting: Tides of Solitude
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
“Tides of Solitude” is especially dear to me. It’s based on a scene from Destin, Florida, where my family and I enjoyed a beach vacation—a trip filled with sunburns, boating around Crab Island, and soaking up the sunshine together. I took many reference photos on that trip (as artists often do!), and this scene stood out.
This painting is a visual reminder to be still and rest in God’s peace—to allow your soul, mind, and spirit to breathe, mend, and be renewed. Just as the tide rises and falls, there are seasons to work and seasons to pause. My hope is that this piece brings calm to your heart, reminding you of the importance of stillness, solitude, and trust in the One who holds it all.

🙏 Final Reflection
I’m continually reminded that art is a journey—one full of growth, learning, and grace. Whether I’m submitting to a show, painting in my studio, or sharing online, my prayer is that each piece reflects hope, rest, and God’s loving presence. Thank you for being part of this journey with me.
